Mn doped zirconia is utilized as an environmental-friendly and efficient catalyst for an ultrasound mediated four-component coupling reaction, containing dimethylacetylenedicarboxy late/ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, malononitrile, and aromatic aldehyde. These reactions were performed under green solvent conditions, to yield pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole-3-carboxylate/pyr ano[2,3-c]pyrazole-5-carbonitrile derivatives (5a-g and 7a-g) with good to excellent yields (88-98%). The structures of the compounds were identified and confirmed by H-1 NMR, N-15 NMR, C-13 NMR, FT-IR and HR-MS spectral data. The prepared catalyst Mn/ZrO2 was synthesized and fully characterized by various techniques including P-XRD, BET, SEM and TEM analysis. The main benefits of this process are short reaction times, easy work-up, reusability of the catalyst and no chromatographic purifications. (C) 2016 The Authors. The degradation of organic contaminants in aquatic systems has raised immense attention worldwide, and the second-order rate constant (k(SO4)(-)) of water pollutants oxidized by sulfate radical anion is an important index for assessing the degradation efficiency of organics. Herein, a new norm mathematical formula is defined. Based on this, four new descriptors are proposed and a QSPR model is developed for predicting k(SO4)(-) using 30 families of emerging organic pollutants in water. The statistical results fully prove that this model has good fitting effect and stability with R-2 of 0.8862, Q(LOO)(2) of 0.8466, and Q(5-fold)(2) of 0.8329, respectively. The validation results including cross validation, applicability domain analysis, and model comparison show that this model has good robustness, predictive performance, and reliability. These decent results indicate that the new norm mathematical formula is effective in calculating descriptors and the norm indexes have a great application for evaluating the transformation fate of organic pollutants by sulfate radical in aquatic systems.

High-mannose (Man(9)GlcNAc(2)) is the main carbohydrate unit present in viral envelope glycoproteins such as gp120 of HIV and the GP1 of Ebola virus. This oligosaccharide comprises the Man(9)epitope conjugated to two terminalN-acetylglucosamines by otherwise rarely-encountered beta-mannose glycosidic bond. Formation of this challenging linkage is the bottleneck of the few synthetic approaches described to prepare high mannose. Herein, we report the synthesis of the Man(9)epitope with both alpha and beta configurations at the reducing end, and subsequent evaluation of the impact of this configuration on binding to natural receptor of high-mannose, DC-SIGN. Using fluorescence polarization assays, we demonstrate that both anomers bind to DC-SIGN with comparable affinity. These relevant results therefore indicate that the more synthetically-accesible Man(9)alpha epitope may be deployed as ligand for DC-SIGN in bothin vitroandin vivobiological assays.

Experimental solubilities have been determined for anthracene, benzil, 2-chloroanthraquinone, 9-fluorenone, 2-hydroxybenzoic acid, 2-methoxybenzoic acid, 2-methylbenzoic acid, 3-methylbenzoic acid, phenothiazine, pyrene, and thioxanthen-9-one dissolved in benzyl alcohol at 298.15 K. Purpose: Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) has been used to improve growth in children with Noonan syndrome (NS). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of rhGH therapy in Korean children with NS. Methods: Seventeen prepubertal children (10 boys, 7 girls) with NS who received rhGH therapy for at least 3 years between 2008 and 2017 were included. To compare the response, age- and sex-matched children with GH deficiency (GHD; n=31) were included. Height and growth velocity before and during treatment were analyzed. Results: The mean age of NS patients was 6.34 +/- 2.32 years. After treatment, the height standard deviation score (SDS) increased from -2.93 +/- 0.81 to -1.51 +/- 1.00 in patients with NS and from -2.45 +/- 0.42 to -1.09 +/- 0.47 in patients with GHD. There were no significant differences in growth velocity or change in height SDS between patients with NS and GHD. Growth velocity in the first year of treatment was higher in patients with PTPN11 mutations than those without PTPN11 mutations, but the change in height SDS was not significantly different between those 2 groups. Conclusion: rhGH therapy can increase linear growth in prepubertal children with NS. The growth response between patients with NS and patients with GHD was not significantly different. Furthermore, we observed that lower doses of growth hormone have a similar effect on height compared to previous studies in patients with NS. Our study indicates that rhGH treatment is useful for growth promotion.

Historically accessed through two-electron, anionic chemistry, ketones, alcohols, and amines are of foundational importance to the practice of organic synthesis. After placing this work in proper historical context, this Article reports the development, full scope, and a mechanistic picture for a strikingly different way of forging such functional groups. Herein, we report the synthesis and application of a Zn-Bp-BTC MOF (Bp – -4,4′-bipyridine; BTC -1,3,5-benzene tricarboxylic acid; MOF -metal organic framework) as a heterogeneous catalyst for mediating organic reactions. Initially, conditions were optimized for the Knoevenagel condensation reaction using Zn-Bp-BTC as a heterogeneous catalyst by varying the solvent, temperature and catalyst loading. Although the reaction proceeded at room temperature using methanol as the solvent, 60 degrees C offered the best yield in a shorter duration. Under optimized reaction conditions, a wide range of alpha, beta-unsaturated dicyano compounds were prepared from the corresponding carbonyl precursor and malononitrile, the active methylene counterpart. Systematic investigation was also carried out to assess the role of the ligand and metal salt in the Knoevenagel condensation reaction. It was found that the Zn-Bp-BTC MOF catalyzed the reaction efficiently in comparison to its analogue Zn-BTC MOF and precursor Zn(NO3)(2) center dot 6H2O. Finally, catalytic recycling and stability studies showed that the catalyst is able to mediate the reaction for up to five consecutive cycles without undergoing any significant chemical or morphological changes. Further, the catalyst was tested for its efficacy in a multi-component reaction (MCR). A MCR with the Zn-Bp-BTC MOF as the catalyst afforded good yields and there was no reaction in the absence of the catalyst. Similarly, the catalyst was tested for its efficiency in benzimidazole synthesis.

In this work, with the available solid-liquid equilibrium (SLE) data of six aromatic carboxylic acids, aromatic dicarboxylic acid isomers (terephthalic acid (TPA), isophthalic acid (IPA), and phthalic acid (PA)), and methyl benzoic acid isomers (m-toluic acid (m-TA), o-toluic acid (o-TA), and p-toluic acid (p-TA)) in acetic acid (HOAc) + water (H2O) solvent mixtures, the relationship between the molecular structure of the above aromatic carboxylic acids and the solubility of them in HOAc + H2O solvent mixtures is discussed. It could be found that among the aromatic dicarboxylic acid isomers and methyl benzoic acid isomers, TPA and p-TA have the lowest solubility in the same solvent and temperature, respectively. Meanwhile, three new groups, p-ArCOOH, m-ArCOOH, and o-ArCOOH, in the UNIFAC (Dortmund) model were first defined to distinguish the influence of the positions of ArCOOH on the thermodynamic properties of aromatic carboxylic acid isomers, which indicates that ArCOOH is located in the para, meta, and ortho positions of the ArCOOH or ArCH3 groups, respectively. Then, the interaction parameters of ArCOOH, p-ArCOOH, m-ArCOOH, and o-ArCOOH with other involved groups in the solvent systems are first obtained by regressing these available SLE data.
