This transformation successfully couples a variety of carbonates and benzoic acids in good yield (up to 94%) using 1 mol% palladium. This salt free allyl-arylation proceeds without added base, copper, or silver. The only stoichiometric byproducts are carbon dioxide and tert-butanol.

The studies culminating in the synthesis of two large subunits of tautomycetin are described. The first one, fragment C1-C12 that has an anti-1,3-dimethyl system and a terminal diene unit, was accomplished in 10 linear steps in 7.4% overall yield. The second one, fragment C13-C25 which bears the sensitive anhydride framework and the majority of the stereogenic centers, was prepared in 13 linear steps (longest sequence) in 8% overall yield. Among the key transformations used, a regioselective epoxide opening, a Pd-catalyzed addition of terminal alkyne to acceptor alkyne, a Mukaiyama aldol reaction, a Yamaguchi esterification, and a homemade mild di-esterification can be cited. The chosen strategies allowed good yields, stereoselectivity, reproducibility, and scalability for several important intermediates.

Metal single-atom catalysts (SACs) promise great rewards in terms of metal atom efficiency. However, the requirement of particular conditions and supports for their synthesis, together with the need of solvents and additives for catalytic implementation, often precludes their use under industrially viable conditions. Here, we show that palladium single atoms are spontaneously formed after dissolving tiny amounts of palladium salts in neat benzyl alcohols, to catalyze their direct aerobic oxidation to benzoic acids without ligands, additives, or solvents. With this result in hand, the gram-scale preparation and stabilization of Pd SACs within the functional channels of a novel methyl-cysteine-based metal-organic framework (MOF) was accomplished, to give a robust and crystalline solid catalyst fully characterized with the help of single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). These results illustrate the advantages of metal speciation in ligand-free homogeneous organic reactions and the translation into solid catalysts for potential industrial implementation.

Experimental solubilities have been determined by spectrophotometric methods for 1-chloro-4-bromobenzene, 1,4-dibromobenzene, 1,4-dichloro-2-nitrobenzene, benzoic acid, 4-nitrobenzoic acid, 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid, 2-methoxybenzoic acid, 4-methoxybenzoic acid, 3-chlorobenzoic acid, 3,5-dinitro-2-methylbenzoic acid, 2-methylbenzoic acid, 3-methylbenzoic acid, 3,4-dichlorobenzoic acid, benzoin, 4-tert-butylbenzoic acid, 4-chlorobenzoic acid, 3,4-dimethoxybenzoic acid, 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid and o-acetoacetaniside dissolved in 2-ethyl-1-hexanol at 298.15 K. Our experimental measurements, combined with published solubility data retrieved from the published chemical and engineering literature, were used to derive Abraham model correlations for solute transfer into 2-ethyl-1-hexanol from both water and from the gas phase. The derived Abraham model correlations were found to back-calculate the measured experimental values to within +/- 0.12 log units (or less).

We report a new system for the silylation of aryl C-H bonds. The combination of [Ir(cod)(OMe)](2) and 2,9-Me-2-phenanthroline (2,9-Me-2-phen) catalyzes the silylation of arenes at lower temperatures and with faster rates than those reported previously, when the hydrogen byproduct is removed, and with high functional group tolerance and regioselectivity. Inhibition of reactions by the H-2 byproduct is shown to limit the silylation of aryl C-H bonds in the presence of the most active catalysts, thereby masking their high activity. Analysis of initial rates uncovered the high reactivity of the catalyst containing the sterically hindered 2,9-Me-2-phen ligand but accompanying rapid inhibition by hydrogen. With this catalyst, under a flow of nitrogen to remove hydrogen, electron-rich arenes, including those containing sensitive functional groups, undergo silylation in high yield for the first time, and arenes that underwent silylation with prior catalysts react over much shorter times with lower catalyst loadings. The synthetic value of this methodology is demonstrated by the preparation of key intermediates in the synthesis of medicinally important compounds in concise sequences comprising silylation and functionalization. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that the cleavage of the aryl C-H bond is reversible and that the higher rates observed with the 2,9-Me-2-phen ligand are due to a more thermodynamically favorable oxidative addition of aryl C-H bonds.

New derivatives of chromeno[4,3-b]quinolin-6-one were synthesized using novel SO3H-tryptamine supported on Fe3O4@SiO2@CPS which could be recycled as an effective magnetic nanocatalyst. In the present work, the nanocrystalline particles of hydroxyapatite (HAp) using an easy alkoxide-based sol-gel technique including triethyl phosphate [PO (OC2H5)(3)] and Ca (NO3)(2)center dot 4H(2)O as P and Ca precursors have been synthesized. The sample characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform-infrared analysis, scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis (thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis), and elemental analysis of energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. It is interesting that single phase of HAp was obtained at a low firing temperature of 500 degrees C. Modified Scherrer equation as the Williamson-Hall method was applied for the measurement of crystallite size distributions and micro-strain of the sample. The determined crystallite size by complementary technique of transmission electron microscopy has good consistency with those obtained from the Scherrer formula. Moreover, we reported the one-pot synthesis of 3,4-disubstituted isoxazole-5(4H)-ones through the aqueous solution reaction of three components of ethyl acetoacetate, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and various aromatic aldehydes at room temperature. This protocol offers several advantages, including a simple work-up procedure, very short reaction times (under 25 min), in accordance with the principles of green chemistry, recyclability, excellent yields (87-98%) and environmentally friendly.
