The methoxy-, hydroxy-, and carbonyl-substituted benzenes are the simplest fragments from the lignin separation feedstocks. Extensive experimental thermochemical studies of these compounds were carried out, including combustion calorimetry, vapor pressure measurements, and differential scanning calorimetry. We have collected available primary experimental results on enthalpies of formation and vapor pressures as well as on phase transitions, liquid-gas, liquid-solid, and crystal-liquid. These data were evaluated using empirical, semiempirical, and quantum chemical methods. The consistent sets of evaluated thermodynamic data were used to design the method for predicting enthalpies of vaporization and enthalpies of formation of di- and trisubstituted benzenes. It is expected that parameters and pairwise interactions will be transferable to predict the thermochemical properties of poly methoxy-substituted and poly hydroxysubstituted benzenes that appear in reaction products of lignin transformations in the value-adding chemicals and materials.

We report the preparation of lithium-salt-free KDA (potassium diisopropylamide; 0.6 m in hexane) complexed with TMEDA (N,N,N ‘,N ‘-tetramethylethylenediamine) and its use for the flow-metalation of (hetero)arenes between -78 degrees C and 25 degrees C with reaction times between 0.2 s and 24 s and a combined flow rate of 10 mL min(-1) using a commercial flow setup. The resulting potassium organometallics react instantaneously with various electrophiles, such as ketones, aldehydes, alkyl and allylic halides, disulfides, Weinreb amides, and Me3SiCl, affording functionalized (hetero)arenes in high yields. This flow procedure is successfully extended to the lateral metalation of methyl-substituted arenes and heteroaromatics, resulting in the formation of various benzylic potassium organometallics. A metalation scale-up was possible without further optimization.

In the present work, a library of fifteen 2-hydroxy benzothiazole-linked 1,3,4 -oxadiazole derivatives have been synthesized and confirmed using different analytical techniques. All of the synthesized compounds have been tested for antibacterial and in silico pharmacokinetic studies for the first time. From the ADME predictions, compound 4 showed the highest in silico absorption percentage (86.77%), while most of the compounds showed more than 70% absorption. All of the compounds comply with the Lipinski rule of 5, suggesting that the compounds possess good drug likeness properties upon administration. Furthermore, all of the compounds follow the Veber rule, indicating good bioavailability and good intestinal absorption. The antibacterial results exhibited excellent to moderate activity. Compounds 5, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17 were the most active compounds against the tested bacterial strains. Compound 14 showed comparable MIC 6.25 +/- 0.2 mu g/disc to the standard drug amoxicillin against the tested Gram-positive bacterial strains. Compounds 5, 14, 17 exhibited MIC 12.5 +/- 0.8 mu g/disc, which was comparable to the standard drug against E. faecalis. It can be concluded that the synthesized compound could be used as a lead molecule in the development of new antibacterial agents with high efficacy.
