This study presents a method to calculate the surface tension of a wide variety of organic carboxylic-based acids molecules starting from the experimental data of the liquid viscosity. The first step of this research was a data collection and then an accurate selection of experimental sources for the calculation of surface tension. Besides, in order to build two different but comparable databanks, the experimental points were regressed with simple equations at the same reduced temperature range, spanning from 0.35 to 0.75. As a final step, the original relationship of Pelofsky between the natural logarithm of surface tension and the inverse of viscosity was changed to better describe the property under investigation. The simple modification of adding the reduced temperature allowed to achieve an MD of 1.24% for the whole dataset that contains 22 fluids with 170 surface tension data and 379 liquid viscosity experimental data. Perovskite crystal grain size control, grain boundary passivation, and grain bridging are the keys to obtaining high efficiency in perovskite solar cells. A small amount of semi-conducting single-walled carbon nanotubes added to a perovskite active layer can achieve this. In particular, the surfactants attached to the semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes a crucial role. In this work, we synthesized a new surfactant, 4,6-di(anthracen-9-yl)-1,3-phenylene bis(dimethylcarbamate), which has a polyaromatic group on one end and a urea-analogue carbamate group on the other end. The polyaromatic anthracene end functions as a nanotweezer clenching the carbon nanotubes strongly via pi-pi interaction while the carbamate end interacts with Pb2+, functioning as a strong Lewis base. In addition, the new surfactant has conjugated double bonds with a suitable bandgap, resulting in enhanced charge mobility in the perovskite film. Overall, the new surfactant-clenched semiconducting carbon nanotubes showcase superior effectiveness as passivators and charge bridges in perovskite solar cells as compared to the conventional deoxycholate surfactant-wrapped semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes. The new surfactant-attached semiconducting carbon nanotube-added NH3CH3PbI3-based perovskite solar cells exhibited a power conversion efficiency of 20.7%, which is higher than that of the reference devices with no additives (18.4%) and the previously reported semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube-added devices (19.7% in this work and 19.5% in the literature).

A method for the palladium/copper-catalyzed direct acylation of azoles with acyl fluorides is described. This study reports the first examples of acyl fluorides being used as acylation reagents in transition-metal-catalyzed aromatic C-H bond functionalization reactions. Depending on the reaction temperature, decarbonylative coupling may also occur. Mechanistic studies suggest that the cleavage of the aromatic C-H bond, promoted by a copper-phosphine species, is not the rate-limiting step of this acylation.

While several trifluoromethylation reactions involving the electrochemical generation of CF3 radicals via anodic oxidation have been reported, the alternative cathodic, reductive radical generation has remained elusive. Thirty-four seco-3’R,4’R-disubstituted-2′,2′-dimethyldihydropyrano[2,3-f]chromone (seco-DSP) derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for chemo-reversal activity when combined with paclitaxel or vincristine in P-gp overexpressing A2780/T and KB-VIN drug-resistant cancer cell lines. Most of the compounds displayed moderate to significant MDR reversal activities. Compound 7e showed the most potent chemo-sensitization activity with more than 1471 reversal ratio at a concentration of 10 mu M, which was higher than verapamil (VRP) (212-fold). Unexpectedly the newly synthesized compounds did not show chemosensitization activities in a non-P-gp overexpressing cisplatin resistant human ovarian cancer cell line (A2780/CDDP), implying that the MDR reversal effects might be associated with P-gp overexpression. Moreover, the compounds did not exhibit significant anti-proliferative activities against non-tumorigenic cell lines (HUVEC, HOSEC and T29) compared to VRP at the tested concentration and might be safer than VRP. In preliminary pharmacological mechanism studies, the compounds increased accumulation of DOX and promoted P-gp ATPase activity in A2780/T cell lines. Western blot analysis indicated they did not affect the expression level of P-gp in the tested MDR cell lines. An investigation of the unexpected lability of the Csp(3)-Csp(2)bond connecting 2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl group and an allylic moiety is carried out. We observed that the catalytic presence of either Lewis or Bronsted acid can render such 2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl group labile. Several nucleophiles were found to substitute the labile C-C bond in mild reaction conditions resulting in very good yields of the allylated products. Even in the absence of a nucleophile, intramolecular cyclization of the parent substrate under acidic activation caused the labile C-C bond to cleave. A major motivation of this study is to understand the lability of electron-rich aryl group in acidic medium, employing 2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl moiety as a case study. A plausible mechanism is proposed after carrying out several control reactions as well as UV/Vis and(1)H NMR spectroscopic studies. This work provides an insight into the activation of electron-rich arenes as a labile entity in acidic medium while also adding a conceptually novel C-C bond breaking approach to the vast literature of allylation of arenes.

A class of pleuromutilin derivatives containing 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole were designed and synthesized as potential antibacterial agents against Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The ultrasound-assisted reaction was proposed as a green chemistry method to synthesize 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole derivatives (intermediates 85-110). Among these pleuromutilin derivatives, compound 133 was found to be the strongest antibacterial derivative against MRSA (MIC = 0.125 mu g/mL). Furthermore, the result of the time-kill curves displayed that compound 133 could inhibit the growth of MRSA in vitro quickly (- 4.36 log10 CFU/mL reduction). Then, compound 133 (1.82 log10 CFU/mL) displayed superior in vivo antibacterial efficacy than tiamulin (- 0.82 log10 CFU/mL) in reducing MRSA load in mice thigh model. Besides, compound 133 exhibited low cytotoxicity to RAW 264.7 cells. Molecular docking studies revealed that compound 133 was successfully localized in the binding pocket of 50S ribosomal subunit (delta Gb = -10.50 kcal/mol). The results indicated that these pleuromutilin derivatives containing 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole might be further developed into novel antibiotics against MRSA.
