A facile ruthenium-catalysed C-H/C-N bond activation and the subsequent annulation of readily available benzoic acids with in situ generated formaldimines are reported. The choice of solvent and base is critical for this reaction. This protocol allows the efficient synthesis of a wide range of biologically important isoindolinones in useful to excellent yields without the use of any external oxidants. The late-stage modification of bioactive acids such as adapalene, bexarotene and flufenamic acid demonstrated the synthetic utility of this methodology.

An efficient and simple approach for the direct synthesis of aryl and heteroaryl sulfonic esters was developed using DMS and DES as alkoxysulfonylation reagents. The reaction is operationally simple and scalable. This protocol does not require solvent, expensive catalysts, base, ligand additives or other reagents. A wide range of sulfonic esters were synthesized in moderate to good chemical yields. This method has the advantage of low cost, facile and tolerated a wide range of substrates.

This study presents a method to calculate the surface tension of a wide variety of organic carboxylic-based acids molecules starting from the experimental data of the liquid viscosity. The first step of this research was a data collection and then an accurate selection of experimental sources for the calculation of surface tension. Besides, in order to build two different but comparable databanks, the experimental points were regressed with simple equations at the same reduced temperature range, spanning from 0.35 to 0.75. As a final step, the original relationship of Pelofsky between the natural logarithm of surface tension and the inverse of viscosity was changed to better describe the property under investigation. The simple modification of adding the reduced temperature allowed to achieve an MD of 1.24% for the whole dataset that contains 22 fluids with 170 surface tension data and 379 liquid viscosity experimental data. Isometric acetone/CS(2)mixture (IACM) was adopted to extract DCLR to produce IACM-soluble fraction (IACM-SF) with a yield of 86.5%. The IACM-SF is of ash-free and high carbon content of 90.18%. The typical structural features of IACM-SF are substituted aromatic structures, nonsubstituted condensed and biphenyl aromatic structures, alkyl bridged linkages, hydrogenated aromatic structures, and heteroatom-containing structures. Highly selective direct monofluorination of indoles and arenes was developed through an approach that allows site-specific solubility of substrate and fluorine source in the micelle. This approach was highly selective for a broad range of substrates with excellent functional group tolerance. Differences in binding constant and solubility of indoles and arenes in the micelle allowed the fine-tuning of selectivity. Control experiments suggested a radical pathway and provided insight into the role of micelles of the environmentally benign amphiphile PS-750-M. Dynamic light scattering experiments strongly indicated the site-specific solubility of the substrate and fluorine source. The methodology was successfully adapted to gram scale, and the E-factor established from a recycle study indicated that the process is environmentally responsible and sustainable.
