The alternative way of synthesis of valuable 5-amino-3-methylisothiazole and 3-methyl-4-nitroisothiazole has been presented and described. It appeared that new, undescribed 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-dinitro-5,5′-bisisothiazole has been produced as a side-product during synthesis. Both experimental and calculated spectral and electronic properties of 3-methyl-4-nitroisothiazole have been extensively researched and discussed. The complete vibrational assignments were made on the basis of potential energy distributions PED. The fully anharmonic infrared and Raman spectra with calculated anharmonic intensities for fundamental bands, overtones as well as combination bands are presented. Vibrational spectra predicted by anharmonic approximation agree very well with experimental data. The stability of molecules of 3-methyl-4-nitroisothiazole arising from hyper conjugative interaction has been estimated using natural bond orbital (NBO 6.0) analysis. The combined frontier molecular orbital and NBO analysis of canonical molecular orbitals was used to predict the most probable sites of 3-methyl-4-nitroisothiazole molecule where single electron can be accepted to and detached from. Rational design of diketopyrrolopyrrole-based multifunctional materials for organic light-emitting diodes and organic solar cells

A series of donor-acceptor diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives has been investigated to reveal their optical, electronic, and charge transport properties for applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic solar cells (OSCs). The calculated results show that their optical, electronic, and charge transport properties are affected by the different end groups. The introduction of the 2,5-diphenylthiophene, benzo[c]isothiazole, benzo[c]thiophene, benzo[c]thiophene, 2,4-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazole, and thieno[3,4-b][1,4] dioxine end groups can broaden absorption spectrum and improve charge transport property of the designed compounds. Our results suggest that the designed compounds can serve as donor materials for OSCs and luminescent materials for OLEDs. In addition, the mobility of the designed compounds is also investigated. They are expected to be promising candidates for hole and electron transport materials. On the basis of investigated results, we proposed a rational way for the design of multifunctional materials for OLED and OSC applications.

Antidermatophytic activity of pyrazolo[3,4-c]isothiazoles: a preliminary approach on 4-chlorophenyl derivative for evaluation of mutagenic and clastogenic effects on bacteria and human chromosomes in vitro

The antifungal activity of eight pyrazolo[3,4-c]isothiazole derivatives was evaluated on five dermatophytes: three were of an anthropophilic species (i.e., Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton rubrum, and Trichophyton tonsurans) and two were of a geophilic species (i.e., Microsporum gypseum and Nannizzia cajetani). The new compounds proved to be unlikely effective in inhibiting the growth of the different strains. In general, the fungi parasitic on man were more sensitive than the geophilic species. This fact can be positive for a possible practical-therapeutic utilization of this class of compounds. To verify their possible use against fungi of medical interest, the most interesting substance at low doses, 6-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-methyl-6H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]isothiazol-3-amine, was chosen to perform in vitro genotoxicity tests using the following: Salmonella/microsome test (SAL), sister chromatid excange test (SCE), cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus test (CBMN), and its improvement (Ara-C/CBMN). The compound showed no mutagenic activity at low doses, whereas at the highest dose (100 mu g/mL), it caused a generalized cytotoxic effect. The high growth inhibition exerted on fungi at the lowest dose and the concomitant lack of genotoxicity, at least until the dose of 50 mu g/mL, might suggest the compound as a safe candidate as an antidermatophytic substance.
