The antiausterity natural product (+/-)-uvaridacol L was synthesized for the first time in seven steps from myo-inositol. The key reaction of this synthesis, axial selective dibenzoylation of myo-inositol orthoformate, was achieved using a catalytic amount of tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF). The preferential cytotoxicity of racemic uvaridacol L against cancer cell lines able to adapt to nutrient deprivation was also evaluated under nutrient deprived conditions. Morphological evaluation was also carried out.

This contribution describes sulfoximine (SFI) derivatives as a novel type of acceptor for efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters. SFI presents a unique advantage by facile introduction of versatile functionalities on its secondary amine, which allows delicate manipulation of TADF properties. In a proof of principle study, three green/yellowish green TADF emitters, namely DMAC-SFIP, DMAC-SFIC and DMAC-SFIS were developed with different electron-withdrawing N-substituents based on simple donor-acceptor (D-A) typed structure. A look into the molecular conformations indicates the existence of different types of weak intramolecular interactions to suppress nonradiative decay. More importantly, effective mixing between charge transfer (CT) and locally excited (LE) triplet states is observed for DMAC-SFIP, DMAC-SFIC due to suitable electron-deficiency in the SFI segment, resulting in acceleration of the reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) rate. Consequently, these new TADF emitters render excellent organic light-emitting diode (OLED) performances with external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) up to 20.4% and small efficiency roll-off.

A simple and efficient methodology for Friedel-Crafts acylation of 3-methylindole using Amberlyst 15 resin as catalyst is described. This methodology shows good selectivity towards the formation of the products of 2-acylation, (3-methyl-1H-indol-2-yl)ketones. Several advantages can be ascribed to Amberlyst 15, among them; are the ease of handling, quick separation from the reaction mixture and minimum or no production of the chemical residues that must be eliminated. Besides, the catalyst can be easily recycled and reused with a minimal loss in activity through 6 reaction cycles. The catalyst was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy and superficial acidity.

Nano copper ferrite catalyst is prepared and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, vibrational sample magnetometry, and Fourier transform infrared. The catalytic activity is probed for cross-dehydrogenative coupling of aromatic aldehydes in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant. This catalytic protocol appears as a simple, rather cheap, clean, and efficient practical strategy for the synthesis of symmetrical anhydrides, with proper efficiency (66%). The results of a comparative study of phosphine-containing and phosphine-free catalytic systems of the Heck reaction using aromatic carboxylic anhydrides as arylating agents are presented. It was demonstrated that the patterns of diff erential selectivity of the reaction under competition of two aromatic anhydrides or two alkenes are independent of the presence of a tertiary phosphine additive in the system. It was established that palladium complexes with no phosphine ligands in their coordination sphere are catalytically active at the step of activation of aromatic carboxylic anhydride and alkene. The patterns of diff erential selectivity for regioisomers of arylated products provide the evidence of the participation of phosphine-containing anionic palladium complexes in the regioselectivity-determining step of the catalytic cycle. The data obtained are in agreement with the phosphine involvement in the catalyst transformations proceeding outside the main catalytic cycle.

High-mannose (Man(9)GlcNAc(2)) is the main carbohydrate unit present in viral envelope glycoproteins such as gp120 of HIV and the GP1 of Ebola virus. This oligosaccharide comprises the Man(9)epitope conjugated to two terminalN-acetylglucosamines by otherwise rarely-encountered beta-mannose glycosidic bond. Formation of this challenging linkage is the bottleneck of the few synthetic approaches described to prepare high mannose. Herein, we report the synthesis of the Man(9)epitope with both alpha and beta configurations at the reducing end, and subsequent evaluation of the impact of this configuration on binding to natural receptor of high-mannose, DC-SIGN. Using fluorescence polarization assays, we demonstrate that both anomers bind to DC-SIGN with comparable affinity. These relevant results therefore indicate that the more synthetically-accesible Man(9)alpha epitope may be deployed as ligand for DC-SIGN in bothin vitroandin vivobiological assays.

The direct C3 alkylation of indoles and oxindoles is a challenging transformation, and only a few direct methods exist. Utilizing the underexplored ability of triaryl boranes to mediate the heterolytic cleavage of alpha-nitrogen C-H bonds in amines, we have developed a catalytic approach for the direct C3 alkylation of a wide range of indoles and oxindoles using amine-based alkylating agents. A convenient synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazoles and benzoxazoles from the reactiono-aminophenol oro-aminothiophenol with acyl chlorides or acid anhydrides has been accomplished. The various carboxylic acid derivatives were reacted witho-aminophenol oro-aminothiophenol in the presence of KF-Al(2)O(3)as a base heterogeneous catalyst to form correspondence benzothiazoles and benzoxazoles in high yields, and the catalyst showed a good recyclability.
